Orthopedics is the branch of medicine that focuses on the musculoskeletal system—bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves—and its associated injuries and disorders. An orthopedic specialist diagnoses and treats conditions through both surgical and non-surgical methods, which can include physical therapy, medication, injections, and surgery, to restore function and mobility. The field addresses issues from birth deformities and trauma to degenerative diseases, sports injuries, and infections.
